His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark presented the awards together with Deputy Director General Anders Hoffmann, the Business Authority of Denmark, the jury and Managing Director Rasmus Wiinstedt Tscherning, CKO.

17 countries were represented in the Creative Business Cup Global Award Show and the winner was We Want Cinema from The Netherlands with their new online platform, where users decide what movies are shown in the theatre. 'We Want Cinema" won the 1. prize with a total value of about 50,000 US dollars. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark presented the awards together with Deputy Director General Anders Hoffmann, the Business Authority of Denmark, the jury and Managing Director Rasmus Wiinstedt Tscherning, CKO.

Motivation of the winner:

"Several years of working in the film distribution industry resulted in interesting insights into pain points – and by combining the potential of the capacity in cinema, new technology and social platforms they have created a scalable solution. It is a great example to set, that with limited funding and a small team, a business can get off the ground and heading towards success."

"It’s a brave plan to challenge the existing value chain and through their innovative approach create a new way to create new revenue for the movie industry. We would like to see the emerging markets reach school screenings during the daytime and explore potential collaboration opportunities with the independent film producers."

"We Want Cinema know that becoming the authentic brand in this area and internationalising is the key to success. The jury is now doing what we can to make this move a little easier.  'We – the jury - Want Cinema", said Danish member of the jury on behalf of the jury CEO Peter Kreiner, noma."

Background of Creative Business Cup 2012

From the British music trade to the film industry in Bollywood and new computer game firms in Sydney: The creative industries span a wide range of companies, that make everyday life easier, develop our societies and generate growth. Danish toy producer LEGO, Cirque de Soleil from Canada and Australian clothes brand Billabong all started as entrepreneurs based in the creative industries having revolutionary business ideas. At the moment, there is a global recognition of the need to support the creative industries as a dynamic element in the economy, an element that has been underdeveloped until now.

Creative Business Cup is a part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, which is a global initiative to further entrepreneurship. The international competition is arranged by the Danish Center for Cultural and Experience Economy supported by the Danish Industry Foundation, the Danish Business Authority and the Ministry of Business and Growth, the Ministry of Culture, the Kauffman Foundation, the Roskilde Festival, Carlsberg, KreaNord, the City of Copenhagen, Uge46, the Danish Center for Culture and Development, Lakrids by Johan Bülow, Georg Jensen, CPH Volunteers and Monday Morning.

“In 2012, few startup teams succeed without original thought and new ways of looking at things—and nowhere do we see that more than in the creative industries. Holding the Creative Business Cup during Global Entrepreneurship Week reminds the world that creativity and innovation are at the heart of entrepreneurship”, says Jonathan Ortmans, president, Global Entrepreneurship Week and Creative Business Cup jury member.
