The Arla Food Innovation Challenge

Do you have a great, innovative or disrupting idea that could revolutionize the food industry? Then you might be the winner of the Arla Food Innovation Challenge 2015.

This year, November 17th and 18th Creative Business Cup and Arla Denmark invites creative entrepreneurs from around the world to participate in the Arla Food Innovation Challenge. 

The Arla Food Innovation Challenge is a challenge of minds, not a competition among products. We have a thing with dairy, perhaps your passion is sustainability, culture or technology. Our approach is human centered and we are looking for the next surprisingly innovative idea, that will make our world a better place to eat – rather than the next flavour in yoghurts. Our minds are set on open innovation and cocreation – we don’t know about yours – surprise us!

Arla Food Innovation Challenge Criteria

The winners of the Arla Food Innovation Challenge will be SMEs and entrepreneurs that present a Human centred concept with a high level of creativity and great market potential.

At Arla, we believe that milk is nature's most unique food. It’s the first drink you ever had and it can be a part of a healthy diet throughout your life. Our interest in tasty and healthy food is bigger than ever, and we constantly offer the consumers new, interesting food products and formats to provide novelty and deliver benefits in the most optimized manner

In innovation, we seek diversity, with new and deeper tastes based on local traditions or cultural techniques such as fermentation. The social importance of food has also become a focal point. Be it cooking as co-creation, new family meals or new ways of convenient consumption as take away, street food or healthy snacks. 

Finally, we are also increasingly aware that we must have a sound food production and minimize food waste – to secure a sustainable planet. 

For the Arla Food Innovation Prize, we will be looking for a creative concept that addresses some of the following:

  • Innovates in terms of technology, product or service
  • Brings change in the value chains of the food industry and/or generates new needs, new markets or new business models
  • Engages customers or others through new channels ( social relations, customer approach, markets or other areas)
  • Shows unique value propositions
  • Is scalable

How to participate?

There are two ways to participate in the Food Innovation Challenge:

  1. Participate in your national Creative Business Cup competition and be selected for the food innovation challenge. Find your National Partner
  2. If you are a startup out of competition you can submit your idea here: Join Creative Business Cup Innovation Challenge 
    Through the submission link you will be ask to upload your business concept. Remember to tag your submission with the correct Innovation Challenge tag.


  • For startups from countries needing visa to Denmark, August 30th
  • For startups from all other countries including Denmark September 30th

What can you win?

Along with a trip to Copenhagen and the opportunity to pitch in front of a professional jury during Creative Business Cup, the winner will be rewarded the following prize: 

  1. First prize will receive 10.000€
